Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a temporary form of diabetes that develops during pregnancy, typically diagnosed around the 24th to 28th week. During pregnancy, placental hormones can interfere with how your body uses insulin, leading to elevated blood sugar levels—especially after meals.
In most Indian homes, roti (chapati) is the primary source of daily energy and carbohydrates. However, not all flours behave the same way in your bloodstream. Highly refined flours cause a rapid sugar spike. Because carbohydrate intake in GDM must be steady and slow-releasing to protect both the mother and baby, choosing a low-GI, high-fiber roti is the cornerstone of Indian GDM management.
